M79 rounds land near children's centre

Two M79 grenades landed in a rubber plantation behind a children's development centre and opposite an army base in Ruso district of Narathiwat province last night, but caused no casualties.

The base of Company 15121 of Narathiwat Task Force is located at Ban Pupo in tambon Samakkhi.

Pol Col Anothai Jindamanee, the Ruso police chief, and a team of bomb disposal police this morning went to examine the scene on being reported on the the scene of the incident, which occurred about 8.10pm.

The two M79 rounds caused two small craters in the rubber plantation.

Police believed the attackers hoped to foil a plan by soldiers and the Samakkhi tambon administration organisation (TAO) to jointly organise a Children's Day celebration today, in advance of Jan 12.
