Russian dies in motorbike accident

CHON BURI - A Russian woman died in a motorcycle accident in Pattaya on Thursday.

Pattaya police responded to a report of an accident involving two Russian tourists on Beach Road in tambon Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri province.

At the scene, police and emergency workers found Julia Zerkino, 27, lying on the ground bleeding profusely. She had many injuries and died on the way to hospital.

The other rider, Nicolai Perfilyer, 38, also a Russian national, was lying injured on the sidewalk. He suffered some lacerations and a broken shoulder blade. He was given first aid and taken to Pattaya Memorial hospital.

There was a large damaged Suzuki motorcycle nearby.

Police said initial inquires concluded the bike was going at high speed and in the face of approaching traffic Nicolai tried to slow down but lost control and crashed. The pillion passenger, Zerkino, was thrown violently to the ground.

The police will contact Russian consular authorities.
