20 traffic webcams for Bangkok

Bangkok traffic police plan to install 20 new cameras linked over the internet throughout the metropolitan area to improve monitoring of traffic and detection of law breakers, Traffic Division deputy chief Worasak Nopsittiporn said on Tuesday.

Pol Maj Gen Worasak said the cameras will be placed at 20 different locations near 19 police stations, including intersections and roads near Thonglor, Patthumwan and Taling Chan police stations.

The deputy chief said he had discussed with other officers the idea of expanding traffic lanes by eliminating street islands and had also pressed police stations to form special teams to intercept illegal street racers and shut down illegal car modification shops.
