Prom following Thongchai in hunt for European glory

Prom Meesawat will begin his European Tour season at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, starting tomorrow.

The 28-year-old secured his ticket to join the tour after finishing 98th in the Race to Dubai rankings last year.

"My priority is the European Tour this year," insisted Prom, who played only eight European Tour tournaments last year.

"I want to remain in form and be successful on the tour."

The Hua Hin native planned to join the Japan Golf Tour's qualifying tournament late last year but withdrew after securing his European Tour card.

This month, Prom is scheduled to play the Qatar Masters (Jan 23-26) and the Dubai Desert Classic (Jan 31-Feb 3).

Meanwhile, Thongchai Jaidee hopes to build on the impressive form that carried him to third place at the Volvo Golf Champions in Durban, South Africa last weekend.

The result moved Thongchai from 89th to 63rd in the world rankings and he must remain in the top 64 to earn a place in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship from Feb 20-24.

He also needs to climb to the top 50 by March 31 to secure a berth for the Masters, the first major of the year, from April 11-14.

Prom will tee off at 10.40am tomorrow (Thai time) with Craig Lee and Julien Quesne, while Thongchai, grouped with Richie Ramsay and Jamie Donaldson, will start at 11.00am.
