Thailand asked to host Forbes forum

The prestigious Forbes magazine has invited Thailand to host its 2014 Global CEO Conference, government spokesman Thosaporn Serirak said on Wednesday.

Christopher Forbes, Forbes vice chairman, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House.

He had a discussion with Ms Yingluck on a possibility that Thailand would host of the worldwide billionaires’ meeting next year, said Mr Thosaporn.

The conference has been held in many countries over past years, and this year Indonesia’s Bali will host it.

About 400 top management people from leading global companies are invited to attend to exchange views regarding business and investment, he added.

“The meeting is aimed to showcase the trade and investment potential of the host country, which in turn helps  boost investment by major investors across the globe.

“If Thailand can host this international conference it would help boost the country’s investment climate. Foreign investors would know more about Thailand’s investment plans, particularly the government’s planned infrastructure development megaprojects,” Mr Thosaporn said.

The government spokesman said Ms Yingluck informed the Forbes vice chairman the government would accept the invitation for consideration.

The prime minister assigned PM’s Office Minister Niwatthamrong Boosongpaisan to study the proposal in details to assess the advantages and disadvantages of hosting this conference, he added.

Mr Thosaporn said Forbes selected Thailand because of its strong economic fundamentals and growth potential.
