UDON THANI – A 59-year-old man has been charged with attempted rape of a four-year-old girl on two occasions after getting her father drunk, police said on Wednesday.
The victim's half-sister, aged 17, reported to police that the young girl told her she had been molested by her 59-year-old neighbour, Songsak Pimpakerd.
After consulting with the village chief, the 17-year-old took her sister to the police station. A medical examination showed that the girl's vagina was lacerated and infected.
The elder sister said that the girl's mother passed away and their father was an alcoholic and was friends with Songsak, who lived next door.
Police later arrested Mr Songsak, who admitted that he had plied the girl's father with alcohol and tried to molest the young girl twice. The man said he failed on both occasions because she was too young.
The suspect has been detained and will be dealt with according to the law, police said. The victim will be sent to a children's centre to receive trauma therapy.
Names were witheld because of the child's age.
