Chioggia beet

Also known as candy cane beet because of its photogenic concentric circles of reddish pink and white, which are unveiled when cut in the centre.

Chioggia beet is an heirloom root vegetable native to Chioggia, a coastal town of Italy. Tasting similar to other beets, it can be eaten raw, pickled or cooked, but the colour strips will fade when cooked.
