Leading Italian brand Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry has launched a new Bamboo watch and jewellery collection in collaboration with Li Bingbing, the Chinese actress who is well known for her tireless fundraising and charitable work for green causes.
Actress Li Bingbing is the first Chinese goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme.
In 2009, Li Bingbing used her notoriety to establish L.O.V.E, a charitable organisation that promotes a responsible attitude towards life and which, as the name suggests, encourages a more caring approach to the planet. L.O.V.E carries the tagline, "Responsible Life", and the related "L.O.V.E Green" initiative promotes a strong environmental agenda.
Since L.O.V.E was founded, it has continually cooperated with NGOs, media and enterprises to develop charitable and public projects. Li Bingbing's work is recognised around the world and she is the first Chinese Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme (Unep).
The Gucci Special Edition Li Bingbing Bamboo timepiece.
The Gucci Special Edition Li Bingbing Bamboo timepiece for women has a circular design, emphasised by the striking bezel crafted from light bamboo. The medium-size (35mm) watch has a stainless steel and bamboo bangle that incorporates Gucci's iconic Horsebit clasp motifs. The dial, in an ivory shade, underscores the creamy colour scheme and is kept simple with a handful of Roman numerals. The Gucci logo and "Swiss Made" stamp appear at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, respectively. To mark the partnership, the case back is engraved with the words "Gucci and Li Bingbing for Responsible Life".
Designed to be paired with the timepiece is the beaded bracelet, from Gucci Jewelry's own Bamboo collection, in a special-edition format. This delicate beaded bracelet is crafted from contrasting wooden bamboo and milky white beads made from the tagua nut. This adjustable drawstring bracelet is embellished with a sterling silver bead engraved with the Gucci logo and two dangling silver charms, also engraved with the Gucci and Li Bingbing's Responsible Life logos.
Tagua is a sustainable material also known as "vegetable ivory". Using renewable materials demonstrates Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry's desire to source materials with a sustainable provenance, particularly as using tagua eliminates the need to use ivory products from animals such as elephants, whales or walruses.
Meanwhile, Gucci Timepieces also launches the U-Play Bandeau collection to celebrate this upcoming Valentine's Day. This new line, designed by creative director Frida Giannini, features a wide band and offers a new contemporary style to the popular U-Play watch range launched in 2010.
The U-Play Bandeau comes in three models for women, each featuring a chic, wide strap designed in colour variants of champagne, blue or beige.
The champagne colour model features the iconic Guccissima motif in shades of gold and brown. The leather strap is embossed with the GG pattern and matched with a champagne leather bezel. The dial, in sun-brushed silver, displays the interlocking G-shadow.
The other two models come in beige or blue leather with Guccissima strap and coordinated bezels. The dials brim with details: the beige variant displays a bold sun-brushed anthracite dial with a striking, interlocking G shadow in green and red; the blue variant also comes with an anthracite dial and interlocking G shadow in coordinated blue and red colours. The U-Play Bandeau collection, as well as the U-Play range, are sold in a kit where each bezel and strap can be changed according to the mood or the desired style, becoming one of the most playful pieces.
