ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Welcome to Guru 's Gate Crasher, your ultimate guide to finding something fresh to do in this big city.

DJ

There are plenty of options this week for the party-inclined. Things start tonight (Jan 18) with house duo Leodoris from Copenhagen on at new spot Grease (Sukhumvit Soi 49). If you missed it, they played Glow on New Year's, which went down well. Here's your second chance. Hosts are Duck & Noodle who are still bringing a new edge to the party scene with innovative ideas and acts. Entry is B300 with a drink.

PARTY

Also on tonight (Jan 18) is the 13th of the Isan Dancehall bashes at Opposite (27/1 Sukhumvit Soi 51, www.oppositebangkok.com). Usuals Maft Sai and Masa will be joined by Christopher Wise and John Clewley, who have both been chiming in some regular shows on ZudRangMa Radio, available on demand at their website (www.zudrangmarecords.com). They're always fun parties with a good variety of punters - everyone from English teachers to DJs. Entry is B250.

PARTY

On Sat (Jan 19), some familiar names of the scene are banding together to present Pure, which aims to fuse art with parties. It's early days, but the concept might need some fine tuning. They're going up against Together Festival too, so have their work cut out for them. It's on at Sonic (90 Sukhumvit Soi 63, between Ekamai Soi 10 and Big C, 02-382-3395, tinyurl.com/ajozswa). Entry is a hefty B500, which won't help numbers.

PARTY

As discussed in previous columns, the day party scene is set to take off in Bangkok, even more so after the big success of Kolour Sunday last week. With Love are getting in on the act on Sat (Jan 19) with Take me to the River, a day event at Viva & Aviv The River (23 Yotha Road, end of Soi Charoen Krung Soi 24, 02-639-6305), the original site of Kolour, strangely enough. Headiners are more Berliners, after the crew hosted some last weekend as well at Tapas, which was a great party but under-attended. Things will start up at around 3pm by the river, then should go late. Entry is B200 after 5pm, or B300 after 8pm.

MUSIC FESTIVAL

The big-name bash of the week is definitely Together Festival on Sat (Jan 19) at Bitec (88 Bang Na-Trat Road Km 1, 02-749-3939, www.bitec.co.th). Headlining is none other than big Snoop Dogg himself, which would be funny to see. More interesting will be Justice from France, who usually put on a full show of music, lighting and more. The line-up is long, helping ease the B2,300 ticket price. VIP tickets are B2,700, and you can even meet Snoop with a B11,000 VVIP ticket if you're super keen. Doors open at 6pm.

PARTY

For some creativity, join the V64 community for their 1st Anniversary Party. The range of activities on offer will include live bands, performances, food and drink, and a street art demonstration. The studio's gallery will also be showing its whole collection. Things start around 6pm at the studio (143/19 Chaeng Watthana Soi 1 Yak 6, 02-973-2681/2, www.v64artstudio.com). Entry is free.

PARTY

Another daytime option for the weekend comes on Sun (Jan 20). What better way to ease the hangover than Sunday in the Secret Garden in the plush confines of The Eugenia hotel (267 Sukhumvit Soi 31, 02-259-9011, www.theeugenia.com)? It's a small affair about quality over quantity, but will hit the spot particularly if this good weather continues. Entry is B300 before 6pm, or B400 after.
