12 Lao prostitutes arrested

CHON BURI – Police raided an establishment that provided sexual services and arrested 12 Lao nationals working as prostitutes, reports said.

Police raided the premises, a restaurant in Sattahip district, about 1.30am on Monday after receiving a tip from a resident living in the area.

Twelve Lao women, aged 19-24, were found working there.

The owner of the place, Kamolporn Kamkalya, 41, admitted to providing sexual services to customers.

She said a customer chooses one of the girls, who work as waitresses in her restaurant, and takes her to the hotel nearby.

The girls get paid at the rate of 1,250 baht, which was divided equally with her, police said.

Mrs. Kamolporn denied forcing the girls to work as prostitutes.

“They work here at their own free will,” she told police.

The owner and the Lao women have been arrested and will be charged, police told reporters.
