Serial panty thief arrested in Bangkok

A man accused of breaking into women's dormitories and stealing their underwear has been apprehended in Bangkok.

Police reported on Monday that Jirayuth Yampramote, 27, who is accused of burglary and theft of women's underwear, had been arrested.

Mr Jirayuth allegedly stole undergarments from a female dormitory in Muang district of Phetchaburi province on Dec 28 last year.

He was detained by Bangkok police as he was leaving work as a ceiling tile installer, according to Khaosod.

Mr Jirayuth confessed that he was the same person filmed by the dorm's CCTV camera wearing stolen female garments and said he had committed the same crime three times before at various women's apartments. He said that he was aroused by the underwear but had no intention of attacking anyone.

After the thefts were publicised by the media, he fled to Chon Buri province and later moved to Bangkok, where he was caught.

The suspect admitted that he liked to wear female garments because they made him happy and said his wife was unaware of his behaviour until news reports exposed his activities.

Some of the victims were brought in to identify the suspect. They expressed forgiveness for Mr Jirayuth and urged him to seek professional help. He broke down and apologised for his actions.

He is charged with burglary and trespassing.
