Bank clerk vanishes with B9m

NAKHON PHANOM - Police are going after a Krung Thai Bank (KTB) clerk and her boyfriend alleged to have stolen almost nine million baht in cash.

Sutthipong Boonpok, the KTB's Nakhon Phanom branch manager, lodged a complaint with police on Tuesday accusing Juthamas Suwanbamrung and Supachet Chanachai of stealing 8.9 million baht.

Mr Sutthipong said the bank discovered on Sunday night that the money from an automatic cash deposit box was missing. Security cameras had recorded Miss Juthamas, 28, entering the office that night and leaving with the money.

The bank then found evidence she had transferred 1.7 million baht in cash to an account held by Mr Supachet, a 31-year-old Education Ministry official, he said. The two had not been seen since that night.

Pol Maj Gen Churat Pan-ngao, chief of the Nakhon Phanom provincial police, said an investigation revealed that Miss Juthamas had a key to  the ATM as she had been made responsible for the cash box on that day.

Questioning of the bank official had revealed that Mr Supachet was her boyfriend, he said.

Police are seaching for the two fugitives and have filed an application with the court for arrests warrants, Pol Maj Gen Churat said.
