Tang Wong nominated for 'Glass Bear'

Independent Thai comedy-drama "Tang Wong" has been nominated for the Glass Bear award (Gläserner Bär) for best children's film, which will be presented at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival, Office of Contemporary Art and Culture director Chai Nakornchai said on Thursday.

He said the movie was part of the We Love the King movie project to mark His Majesty the King's 84th birthday.

"Tang Wong" is about four boys who make wishes before a Bhudda statue and promise if their wishes come true they would perform a traditional tang wong dance, even though none of them know how to dance, nor are they in touch with Thai traditions.

The 63rd annual Berlin International Film Festival, also known as Berlinale, is scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany from Feb 7-17. The Berlinale is one of the world’s leading film festivals and notable for presenting award winners with bear-shaped statuettes.

In 2012 the Gläserner Bär was won by a New Zealand short film "Meathead" and Turkish drama hit "Lal Grece".
