CTH adds CTE to its TV line-up

Cable Thai Holding (CTH), the newly founded cable TV operator, has bought content from three channels owned by Celestial Tiger Entertainment (CTE), the Hong Kong-based media company.

The channels are Kix, for lovers of action movies; Thrill, for horror and suspense fans; and CCM, which offers the Golden Age of Chinese cinema.

CTE manages six channels, of which four are in high definition and two in standard definition, and its content is focused on Asia.

CTE is also the exclusive sales agent of content in Southeast Asia and China for the independent US studio Lionsgate.

According to Kittsanan Ngamphatipong, chief executive of CTH, the CTE offerings will complement CTH's English Premier League football broadcasts.

Todd Miller, president and chief operating officer of CTE, said the three channels have already found success in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.

"We look forward to working with CTH to continue the momentum of our growing audience in Thailand," he said.

Kix will be included in the basic CTH package, which offers 100 standard-definition channels and 20 high-definition ones for 399 baht a month.

Thrill and CCM will be part of CTH's premium package, details to come.

Mr Kittsanan said the firm will import a supply of set-top boxes from China next month to distribute to CTH's 3 million existing subscribers.

He voiced confidence in adding 2 million subscribers to the cable TV platform, reaching 5 million by year-end.

A source said CTH is set to make a full commercial launch on March 14 with an annual marketing budget of 200 million baht.
