The boy (name withheld) confessed to police that he tried to break into an ATM machine owned by TMB bank on Saturday but failed, so he made off with its UPS (uninterruptable power supply) instead.

However, the teenager did not know what to do with the UPS so he left it next to a pavement, about 500 metres from a police station.

"I just wanted to take the cash to pay for playing games and I tried to break into the ATM by using a technique I saw in a movie," the boy said.

Police were able to track him down after checking footage from a closed circuit television camera near the ATM machine.
