About 300 members of the Labour Union of Port Authority staged a rally Tuesday to demand the resignation of the top executive of the state-owned enterprise because he was "not righteousness for the job".
Pprotesters wearing black gathered in front of the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) headquarters on Tarua Road in Bangkok’s Klongtoey district.
The group was peaceful, but accused PAT director-general Wiroj Jongcharnsittho of nepotism, failure to investigate alleged procurement corruption, creating rifts among employees, and intervening in the union’s affairs.
Sub Lt Wiroj has been on the job for only seven months.
Workers also said the director-general often had conflicts, both with management and the union’s executive members on how to administer the organisation.
The protesters submitted a letter to the PAT board demanding the immediate resignation of Sub Lt Wiroj.
The union threatened to order all 1,300 members to stop working overtime, which would affect the conveyance of imported and exported goods, if the board did not solve the conflict or come up with another resolution.
