'Poor' 16-year-old steals DVDs

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy for allegedly stealing DVDs at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Chon Buri's Sattahip district on Wednesday evening.

Store manager Prachaya Nakthong, 29, told police that the teenager (name withheld) arrived on a motorcycle and walked around the store for several minutes.

A man who was using an ATM machine in front of the store at the time witnessed the boy stuffing two DVDs into his pants and the man immediately reported it to the store clerks, Mr Prachaya said.

The clerks were able to stop the teenager from making off with the stolen items.

The boy confessed to police that he stole Dredd 3D and Ted DVDs because he liked to watch foreign movies and had not watched the two films yet.

"My family's poor and I don't have money to buy DVDs," the 16-year-old added.
