Sword wielding street thieves arrested

BANGKOK - Two teenage thieves who used a sword to attack and rob people in Pracha Uthit area have been arrested, police announced on Thursday.

Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Thupkrachang, the city police chief, announced the arrest of Nawin Chuenchob, 18, and his accomplice, a minor aged 16 (name withheld), at the Bangkok Metropolitan Police headquarters.

“These youths drove around on a motorcycle and attacked their victims with a samurai-style sword and fled  with their valuables,” Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit told reporters.

Some of the victims were seriously injured, he said. One of the victims was a 40-year-old woman.

He said investigators tracked the youths down and arrested them in Samut Prakan province.

Police also seized a motorcycle and a 45 centimetre sword from the suspects.

Both suspects have previous criminal records and served sentences for several robberies.
