Students killed in bus accident

LAMPANG – Four university students were killed and several others injured after an 18-wheel oil tanker and a university shuttle bus collided on the Lampang-Jae Hom road, police said on Thursday.

Pol Maj Col Manas Jaiwan of the Thung Phai police station said the shuttle bus was driving uphill when an oil tanker, heading in the opposite direction, suddenly swerved wide while taking a curve. The rear part of the tanker slammed into the bus, flipping it into a nearby ditch.

The victims were Lanna Rajamangala University of Technology fourth-year engineering students, two male and two female, he said.

Twenty emergency cars were used to rush the wounded to Lampang Hospital and a rescue team had to use an electric saw to get the oil truck driver out of from under the wreckage, he added.
