Welcome to Guru 's Gate Crasher, your ultimate guide to finding something fresh to do in this big city.

DJs
Get your weekend going tonight (Feb 1) with the With Love crew as they present some more Euro spinners escaping the European winter. This time round it's a triple bill of Kiki, Jadele and Julian Klein, who should throw down the electro slow and deep. The crew has been busy of late hosting a good procession of Euro DJs, which keeps things fresh. Let's hope numbers can match the talent spike. It's on at Glow (96/4-5 Sukhumvit Soi 23, 02-261-4446, www.glowbkk.com). Entry is B400 with a drink. Aim for a midnight arrival. Glow seems to be standing up to the swathe of late-night competition, for now.
ART EXHIBITION
The creative offering of the week comes on Sat (Feb 2) in the form of an opening for exhibition The Desires of Nonthok, in which painter Jirapat Tatsanasomboon discourses the East-West dichotomy through a reinterpretation of traditional Thai text Ramakien. Addressing themes such as class, integrity and power in the context of globalisation, the artist has extensively exhibited internationally. It's on at Thavibu Gallery, an important space that clusters regional creativity as a focus. Opening reception starts at 5pm. Art will be up until Mar 2.
DJ
Later on Sat (Feb 2) evening, the Champion Sounds crew are hosting Flosstradamus at Bed (26 Sukhumvit Soi 11, 02-651-3537, www.bedsupperclub.com). They're billing "trap" as the next sound to wrap around the world, after dubstep and electro, and they might be right. Anything to replace the headache that is dubstep, we say. Support will come from Tech 12 and Motion. RSVP on Facebook to receive B600 entry and a drink. Bed has been leaking crowd of late to neighbouring venues that offer free entry, namely Levels. Let's see if some bigger DJ bills can ebb the outward tide.
LIVE MUSIC
On the altruistic arm of the weekend, the We Love Chris Garratt Charity Gig has all the right intentions. It's a benefit concert on Sat (Feb 2) for the man in question who went to hospital in Dec with stomach pains and has been there ever since. Poor chap. Music will come from The Standards (acoustic set) and Superhans, starting at 9pm. It's on at Fatty's Bar and Diner (598/66 Asoke-Dindaeng Road, 081 438 7221). Entry is B100, but donations of more are of course welcome to help the guy out. Also donate at www.giveforward.com/weloveyouchris.
DJ FESTIVAL
With DJ booths being restricted to a certain size probably for ego management reasons, it will be interesting to see how Levels (6/F, 35 Sukhumvit Soi 11, 082-308-3246, facebook.com/levelsclub) copes with the DJ Festival 2.0 the second instalment of its kind. Headlining the fun is house producer/DJ Wolfgang Gartner from the US. But really, hype aside it's just a bunch of DJs with an international cherry act on top, so should be a decent night out. Even better, entry is free.
