Corpse found in crashed car

Drug suppression police found the corpse of a man in a car that had broken through a checkpoint in Nakhon Sawan and crashed into a tree on Saturday night, reports said.

The car driver who was chased and refused to stop was the wife of the dead man. The reports said the Mukdahan-registered car sped through a drug checkpoint on the Asian highway at Phayuha Khiri district of Nakhon Sawan despite being told to stop for a search.

Police took off after the car which skidded off the road and rammed into a tree at tambon Nong Pling in Muang district of Nakhon Sawan.

Police surrounded the damaged car and found it was being driven by a woman, Kanchana Angkab, 38. Sitting in the front with her was her 16-year-old son.

In the back seat was Thongchai Angkab, 41, Mrs Kanchana's older brother.

Under the back seat, police found the body of a man with the head wrapped in a black plastic bag and the body in an orange plastic sheet.

The dead man was later identified as Somchai Takoporn, 40, Mrs Kanchana's husband.

Mr Thongchai told the police that at about 9.30pm on Saturday night he hit Somchai with a lump of eucalyptus wood until he was dead. He asked his 16-year-old nephew to move Somchai's body into the car and told his sister, Mrs Kanchana, to drive.  His intention was to look for a site to dump the body.

Mr Thongchai said he decided to kill Somchai because the man was a gambler who always intimidated and extorted Mrs Kanchana for money.
