Woman caught with B20m of cocaine

A Thai woman has been arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport for allegedly smuggling cocaine with a street value of more than 20 million baht into Thailand, police said on Sunday.

The woman was named as Natcha Lomchanthuek, who told police that before she arrived at Suvarnabhumi, she had flown from Peru and stopped over at Sao Paulo in Brazil, Singapore and Samui in Surat Thani province.

Police said customs officials found more than five kilogrammes of cocaine in her bag.

The suspect denied any involvement with the drugs and said they belonged to her boyfriend.

Police charged her with possession of illegal drugs and bringing them into the country without permission.

Rakop Srisupaat, deputy chief of the Customs Investigation and Suppression Bureau, said there had been a sharp increase in women drug traffickers and officials working at different airports nationwide will have to be more watchful.
