A traffic policeman suffering from depression tried to commit suicide after an argument with his wife, according to reports.

Police were on Tuesday called to a police apartment building in Dusit area of Bangkok, with reports of a gun being fired inside one of the apartments.

They found Pol Sgt Noppadol Phetkrong, 39, critically injured with a gunshot wound to the left side of his forehead. He was rushed to a hospital.

According to his wife, they had an argument after he returned home from duty and was still in his uniform. She said they have been together for 10 years and often argued about money and debts.

“During the argument, he called his brother and asked him to look after our son and pulled out his gun and shot himself,” the wife told police.

Colleagues said Pol Sgt Noppadol had been depressed for a while. He complained that he was under a lot of pressure at work and had no time to spend with his family.

In Ang Thong province, another man threatened to kill himself because he was afraid that his wife would leave him.

It took police about an hour to calm Santichai Nayakid, 42, who climbed the watergate of a canal in the province.

According to his wife, Paphassorn Nayakid, 35, her husband had just been diagnosed with a life-threatening disease and was afraid he would lose both his wife and his job.

“He has been stressed for a while,” she told police.
