Local officials get healthcare fund

A healthcare fund will be set up for 500,000 local administration officials and their families.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Wednesday presided over the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which will set up the fund.

The health deal was reached between the Public Health Ministry, the National Health Security Office (NHSO), the Department of Local Administration and the Interior Ministry.

More than six billion baht will be set aside to provide local administration officials with access to the same level of health care provided to staff in other state organisations, Ms Yingluck said.

The fund is expected to cover more than 500,000 local administration officials and their family members nationwide, and will start in October.

Deputy Public Health Minister Chonlanan Srikaew said local administrations will also contribute to the fund.
