SCHOOL

Why might Thai students be rejoicing when the new school term begins in May?

A)Because there are lots of public holidays in May.

B)Because all their teachers plan to be on strike around then.

C)Because they're tired of being nagged by their parents for playing computer games all day.

D)Because of a new plan that will reduce the amount of homework students have. The strategy comes from the Office of Basic Education Commission (Obec), which supervises public primary and secondary schools, with its secretary-general Chinnapat Bhumirat explaining, "All Thai students will have less work in school and more time for activities. The amount of homework and projects will be adjusted accordingly and tests will be given only when necessary." The plan also stipulates that "anyone who witnesses an educator giving too much work to a student could immediately contact Obec." Geez, can't we have this sort of measure at the office instead for all the work that gets thrown at us?!

WOMEN

When is the best time to avoid women?

A)Before, during and after their menstrual cycle.

B)When there is a massive sale going on.

C)After they've had a fight with their significant other.

D)Every Wednesday at 3:30pm. This very precise figure comes from a recent (and possibly questionable) study that claims women look their oldest in the late afternoon on Hump Day because of low energy, stress and late weekend nights catching up to them. Tanning brand St Tropez, who conducted the survey, concluded that two-thirds of women look "older than their years" on Wednesdays at 3:30pm, but are ready to have sex on Thursdays and feel happiest on Fridays (duh!). The study was carried out to coincide with the launch of an anti-ageing face lotion by St Tropez, so make of these findings what you will and/or stay away from mirrors on Wednesday afternoons.

RECORD

What Guinness World Record did students at a high school in New Jersey recently set?

A)The most number of times anyone has been asked if they live near Tony Soprano.

B)The only students who have memorised the lyrics to every one of Bruce Springsteen's songs.

C)The largest group of people who wish they actually lived in New York.

D)The most people popping bubble wrap at the same time. A total of 336 students at Hawthorne High School in New Jersey broke the record by popping more than 8,000 square feet of bubble wrap in two minutes. Bubble wrap was invented in Hawthorne, NJ in 1960 and the event was held to commemorate the 13th annual Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.
