By choice or by force, you may easily find yourself single this Valentine's Day in the big sleazy megaopolis that is Bangkok. After all, this city houses every conceivable personality type, from hottie to horror. But we here at Guru aren't worried about you, and your wayward weekend ways. Instead, we think you should celebrate your freedom so we are running some wingman action for you (albeit from a distance). Like the older sibling that we are, rather than letting you spend the day crying into a vat of Chang, here are five Bangkok spot recommendations in chronological order to help you find a potential suitor for the big occasion, short/long term or otherwise. Naturally, we accept no responsiblity for the results. The rest is up to you. Go forth!
Clouds at Seenspace - 7pm
You may as well start your evening of potential romance in style. Dust off your best party outfit and head for this staple on the hip strip of Thong Lor. A scene to be seen at, Seenspace (G/F, 251/1 Thong Lor Soi 13, 02-185-2365) is still packing punters in. Ash Sutton of Clouds (of Fat'r Gut'z and Iron Fairies) knows the score, and throws down two-for-one martinis at his Clouds bar that aren't any lighter on the booze. Just make sure you don't peak too early.

Moose Bangkok - 9pm
Even though the ultra elite of the city may have given you the cold shoulder in Thong Lor, maintain your mojo and try the more indie-leaning Moose Bangkok (2/F, 24 Ekamai Soi 21, near Tuba, 02-108-9550). With its darkened surrounds and chill meter on the DJ booth set to high, it's a more relaxed environ to meet people. The cold Japanese lager draft and Thai food menu is worthy of some attention. Just avoid getting any basil stuck in your teeth - an instant datebreaker.

The Alchemist - 11pm
If things don't pan out in Ekamai, pull yourself together and head to the safer surrounds of Sukhumvit to see who's around. The Alchemist Bar (1/19 Sukhumvit Soi 11, 083-549-2055) is tucked behind Cheap Charlie's and offers a variety of potions (cocktails) to maintain your mood and momentum. The crowd is a mix of locals and regular expats. Soi 11 isn't known as Soi Teacher for nothing, so if you prefer your coffee with cream and sugar, you know where to head.

Bash - 2am
Its self-titlement as Bangkok's "Upscale Late Nightclub" is enough to deter you straight away, but that might just be the right formula if you're in the right mood. If not, and you're still out, time for some shots. Inside this den of iniquity (37 Sukhumvit Soi 11, www.bashbangkok.com) you'll find everyone from hi-sos to trawling hookers to Muay Thai fighters, and probably some of your mates as well who weren't quite ready to go home. Reading between the lines: there's something for everyone. Just leave a trail of breadcrumbs to wherever you end up after those shots.

Wong's Place - 4am
Known as "Wrongs" amongst certain regulars, the reputation of Wong's Bar (27/3 Soi Si Bamphen, 081-901-0235) precedes it. And at 4am it is at its best (worst). By now, everyone is completely over-enhanced alcohol-wise, so you're more likely to pass out than pick up. But strangely these two somehow often overlap in the confined and stained walls of the little shophouse. Love to hate it, us and thee.
