LAMPANG - A man was arrested after he tried to rape an 81-year-old woman in her home in Muang district, a report said on Friday.
Police said the 53-year-old man sneaked into the elderly woman's house on Thursday night and tried to rape her while her relatives were at a neighbour's house next door. The victim smacked the man across the face and shouted for help.
The attacker panicked and tried to escape through the front door. He was confronted by the victim's 49-year-old son, who punched him to the ground before rushing to his mother's aid.
The attacker was able to get away. The son immediately called police and later sent his 81-year-old mother to a hospital, police said.
Police received a report two hours after the incident that the attacker had gone to Lampang Hospital to receive treatment, which led to his arrest.
The man confessed that it was the second time he had attempted to have sex with the old woman but it was not successful.
Police have taken Jarun Kumjongga, 53, into custody for further proceedings.
