Damage is estimated at 50 million baht from a fire at three warehouses of SPI Group, a leading producer of foam and plastic products, in Si Racha district of Chon Buri.
More than 10 fire trucks rushed to the scene but the flames were so strong that it took firefighters more than one hour to control the blaze.
Phaitoon Boonta, an employee at the company, said he and around 10 co-workers had just begun work as usual when they suddenly heard several noises that sounded like explosions. They then saw flames spreading out quickly from the warehouse. They tried to control the fire and called for help from the fire brigade and police.
During the fire, people in the area experienced a strong chemical smell and were worried about chemical leakage, but the smell subsided after the blaze was brought under control.
There were no reports of injuries as the fire broke out during a shift change, so around 100 workers had left the factory while people on the next shift had not yet arrived.
The preliminary estimate of damages was 50 million baht. Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
