PHUKET - An American tourist died in a motorcycle accident after failing to take a curve on a road near the Le Meridien Beach Resort early Monday morning.
Police at the Karon station said the victim was found lifeless on the ground along with a motorbike and a bouquet of roses nearby. The man was later identified as Simon Ashley, 32.
The man was on his way back from Patong beach, he was bringing the flowers along as a surprise gift for a girl in Karon beach before leaving on a flight home on Tuesday, police said.
A preliminary investigation found that the victim overshot a curve because he was unfamiliar with the road and was driving one-handed. He then fell off his bike and into a ditch, hitting his head against a rock on his way down.
Mr Ashley's body was sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further medical examination.
