Veteran artist Sa-ngad Pui-ock, long known for portraying Thailand's natural environment on canvas, believes in the nourishing value of beauty.
Beneath Shady Northern Skies will be on display at Jamjuree Art Gallery from Thursday until Feb 26. An opening event will be held tomorrow at 6pm. The gallery is located at Jamjuree 8 Building, Chulalongkorn University, and opens from10amto7pm on weekdays and noon to6pmon weekends. Call 02-218-3709.
The latest luscious expression of this ideal can be seen in Sa-ngad's latest exhibition, "Beneath Shady Northern Skies", which opens at Jamjuree Art Gallery on Thursday.
According to the artist, the natural and traditional environments of Thailand endure to this day.
His works are inspired by beautiful sceneries, whether they be layered stretches of cold mountain ranges, the blossom of wild flowers in all seasons, majestic grey mountains standing behind a streaming river, or the crystal white sand with silver foamy waves that rolls down and disappears into the emerald sea. Sa-ngad believes such scenes provide nourishment. While people are striving in their daily lives and get lost in the demands of technology, they forget that nature is always around us.
The artist would like them to look at it more seriously and feel that their lives are much more valuable.
