Ministry blasts N Korea nuke test

Thailand has condemned North Korea's decision to conduct an underground nuclear test two days ago.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Manasvi Srisodapol said Wednesday Thailand wants Pyongyang to heed the concerns of the international community.

"This provocative act not only violates UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, which North Korea as a member of the UN is obligated to uphold, but also disrupts the atmosphere of peace and stability in East Asia and the Pacific," he said.

"We urge North Korea to heed the concerns of the international community and fully abide by UNSC resolutions by halting its nuclear programme and re-engaging in dialogue to ensure there will be no further actions that will heighten tension on the Korean Peninsula and destabilise regional peace and stability."
