Police couple win gold marriage cert

A total of 66 couples signed to have their marriage registered in Bang Rak district before opening time on Thursday, Valentine's Day, and enter in the draw for a gold marriage certificate.

The first winners were Pol Lt Chukiat Chongsomboonkusol, 35, of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and Chantima Tirawan, 21. The officer finished work around 2am Thursday and the couple waited outside the office from 5am, long before it opened early.

Bang Rak district chief Suachana Sudcharoen was the registrar for their marriage.

The district will distribute a total of 12 gold marriage certificates to 12 lucky couples who register their marriage at the district office on Valentine's Day.

Bang Rak is a popular district for people to register their marriage because rak in Thai means love.

Bang Rak district expected to formalise the marriages of about 1,000 couples today,  Mr Suachana said.

Marriages were being registered at the CAT Telecom building on Charoen Krung Road in Bang Rak district, not at the district office itself.
