Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is being pressed by the Office of the Ombudsman to review the Foreign Ministry’s issuance of a Thai passport to deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

Ombudsman Sriracha Charoenphanich wrote to Ms Yingluck on Tuesday suggesting she order the ministry to review its decision to issue the passport to her brother, Ombudsman deputy secretary-general Raksagecha Chaechai revealed on Thursday.
According to Mr Sriracha’s recommendation, the ministry’s decision to issue the passport based on “partial personal data” of Thaksin and the issuance was not in line with a ministerial regulation.
Therefore, he asked Ms Yingluck to look into the matter and report the progress to the Ombudsman Office within 30 days, Mr Raksagecha said.
The passport was reissued to the fugitive former prime minister in October 2011 because he was "no longer a threat to the country", a foreign ministry spokesman said at the time.
Thaksin lives in self-imposed exile to avoid a jail term imposed on him for abusing his powers while in office. His passport was revoked under the previous government
He lives in exile in Dubai and has travel documents issued by Montenegro and Nicaragua. It is not known if he has used his Thai passport.
