Lin Ping, the female giant panda at Chiang Mai zoo, is the most popular giant panda outside China, an online poll of panda lovers suggests.
Executives of the Zoological Park Organisation of Thailand on Thursday held celebrations at the zoo for Lin Ping.
The celebrations included a parade of animal mascots and a ceremony to present a mock gold medal to Lin Ping.
The panda cub, born in Thailand four years ago, received the highest number of votes in a poll conducted through www.giantpandazoo.com.
Lin Ping was among 10 winners of the Giant Panda Zoo Awards 2012. About 28,000 people took part in the poll.
Lin Ping is the first giant panda born in Thailand. Its parents, Lin Hui and Chuang Chuang, are on loan from China to the zoo.
