It's not all sanuk here says survey

LONDON - If you're Thai, don't get angry. But the fact is, you're not as much fun as the rest of the world thinks you are.

Oh yes, we might have the crowd-pulling Songkran festival, a vibrant and carefree nightlife and a culture based on sanuk. Yet we're a bit dreary, really.

At least that's what a social network site claims. Thais, it says, have fun less often than most nationalities.

In a private survey ranking countries by how often they have fun, it appears Americans and most Europeans enjoy themselves more than Thais _ but Argentinians and Mexicans rank top.

The survey carried out by Badoo, which claims to be the world's largest social network for meeting new people, ranks Thais 12th out of 17 nationalities. The site's global ''Fun League'' canvassed 17,000 mainly young people in 17 countries.

''How often do you really have fun and a good time?'' was the question posed. Thailand was the only Asian country included in the rankings.

''The average Thai has fun 10.2 days a month,'' says Louise Thompson, public relations director for Badoo which claims 170 million users. ''This is roughly the same as citizens of Western countries like Switzerland and Canada.''

Argentinians have the most fun of any nationality _ 15 days a month. ''This makes Argentina the world champions of fun,'' Ms Thompson said.

Some consolation is that Thais are more fun loving than the snow-bound Canadians and the equally frost-bitten French and Belgians. They also rank above the chilled citizens of Russia and Poland.
