Car scam victims file complaint with CSD

About 20 second-hand car buyers yesterday lodged a complaint with the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), saying they had been swindled out of 20 million baht.

Chayut Jeenpracha, one of the complainants, said he paid 530,000 baht last August for a used Toyota Camry from VRP Co Ltd from its sales representative, Perapol Sensuwan.

VRP was granted the concession to provide limousine services at Suvarnabhumi airport and the sedan was a decommissioned airport limousine.

Mr Chayut said the ownership was not transferred to him. Mr Perapol claimed this process would take about six months.

On Wednesday last week, Mr Perapol asked him to hand over the car for inspection prior to the transfer.

A few days later, VRP contacted him and told him the car had been confiscated because it was reported stolen.

The company claimed that Mr Perapol had been fired in February last year and threatened to press charges against Mr Chayut for buying a stolen car from him.

Mr Chayut said he found that several others had also fallen victim to the scam. Others reportedly bought used vehicles from Siam Car Rent Co, another company granted a concession to operate airport limousine services, and suffered a similar fate.
