ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Welcome to Guru 's Gate Crasher, your ultimate guide to finding something fresh to do in this big city.

PARTY

Tonight (Feb 22) sees the farewell of Berlin Beats, which has been ticking over a regular group of partygoers, cashing in on the cultural cache of the German capital. Still, it has been a steady night out and it's sad to see it go, but that's the way it goes. We will lose DJ Felix to new lands soon too, so say your goodbyes. It's on at Glow (96/4-5 Sukhumvit Soi 23, 02-261-4446, www.glowbkk.com). Entry is B200 with a drink before midnight, B300 after.

PARTY

For some indie action, Club Soma is back to it with a joint birthday party for the two leading Soma ladies - Lady Soma and Som Tum. Expect all the indie faves all night and lots of daggy dancing. Venue for this one is newish spot Badmotel (Thong Lor, near soi 15), which isn't particularly indie or great with its fishbowl feel, but the crowd should fix that. Entry is free, which redeems.

PARTY

For a refined finish to the weekend, try the fourth Sunday in the Secret Garden (Feb 24) party. The recipe is simple - easy beats, conversation and afternoon atmosphere by the pool of The Eugenia (267 Sukhumvit Soi 31, 02-259-9011, www.theeugenia.com). After all, life wasn't meant to be difficult, right? Entry is B300 before 6pm, B400 after; with a drink. Bring your swimmers and your tan if you're feeling it. Your wristband will get you a drink at Levels afterwards if you don't feel like going home.

LIVE MUSIC

The live music slot of the weekend comes on Sun (Feb 24) at Fujiyama Night courtesy of the active Japanese population in Bangkok doing good things as usual on the events front. There are three acts on the bill, with a bellydance performance by Yoko. It's on at Harmonica (307 Sukhumvit Soi 39, 02-259-5799). Entry is B150 with a drink.

Close out the month on Thu (Feb 28) with San Fran rockers Thee Oh Sees (www.theeohsees.com), who will perform their psychedelic rock ballads at Cosmic Cafe (RCA Block C, Rama IX Road, 081-304-6907). The quartet have been making waves of late, with web music portal Pitchfork backing them at their 2012 festival. They're known for their energetic live shows, so get down there if you can. Support will come from The Standards, TSOS and Class A Cigarettes. Entry is a modest B300 on the door, 10pm start.

ART TALK

For some creative inspiration go and hear Austrian artist Erwin Wurum talk on Tue (Feb 26) at BACC (939 Rama I Road, 02-214-6630, www.bacc.or.th). He's best known for his "One Minute Sculpture" series. Get the thoughts of an established internationally recognised artist. All for free too.

ART EXHIBITION

For something more low key tonight (Feb 22), try the opening of exhibition Wrath of the Titans, a playful solo show by Pisitakun Kuantalaeng as a follow up to 2009 exhibition "Clash of the Titans". It's on at Speedy Grandma (672/50-52 Charoen Krung Soi 28, facebook.com/SpeedyGrandma). The B100 entry gains you five playing tokens to get involved in the duel with the revengeful gods. Play at own risk. Starts around 7pm.
