M79 attack hurts Pattani police

PATTANI – Six police were wounded after M79 grenades were fired at them on Friday evening while they were exercising at their station in Kapo district.

An unknown number of suspected militants fired three M79 rounds at 10 officers on the grounds of the police station before speeding away, said Pol Maj Gen Ekkaphob Prasitthiwattanachai, the chief of Pattani police force.

The grenades injured six police, none of them seriously, and they were sent for medical treatment at Kapo Hospital, he added.

It was the second incident in four days in which suspected militants had targeted security authorities while they were doing exercises.

On Tuesday, eight soldiers were wounded when a suspected militant tossed a hand grenade into their compound in Muang district of Yala.
