Police break up 50 street racers

Four teenagers were detained in a police crackdown on illegal street racing on Saturday night in Chon Buri province.
Pol Capt Kiatipong Komkhuntod, of Nong Kham police station in Chon Buri's Si Racha district, said a gang of more than 50 teenage motorcycle street racers usually gathered at a gas station in tambon Nong Kham late Saturday night.
A team of officers were deployed to crack down on the gang. The team used trucks to block the entrance and exit of the gas station.
Most of the street racers then fled on motorbikes in different directions and some of them tried to run down police officers. One police volunteer was injured.
Police were able to able to detain three young racers and a girl.
They admitted to police that they met up almost every weekend and each bet on their races was between 1,000 and 2,000 baht.
The three bikers were charged with riding a motorcycle without due care and attention. The girl, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle, was later picked up by her parents.
