Cabinet approves anti-trafficking plan

The cabinet has approved a master plan to combat human trafficking, deputy government spokesman Chalitrat Chatharubeksa said on Thursday.

He said the plan was proposed by the Social Development and Human Security Ministry.

It covers nine issues, including solving the problem of human trafficking for labour, looking after labourers at risk of being trafficked, improving the 2008 anti-human trafficking law and establishing a system to screen victims of trafficking.

It also provides for improving the efficiency of law enforcement against those involved in human trafficking, allowing victims of trafficking to continue to work in the country temporarily, addressing the issue of human trafficking and tourism, and improving the country's image, which has been tainted by the problem.

The cabinet has assigned agencies to step up efforts to implement the plan, Mr Chalitrat said.
