Shipowner lured to death by friend

SUPHAN BURI – Police have arrested three suspects in the murder of a businessman they lured to a meeting and then stole jewellery worth about 10 million baht from his body and car.

Police on Thursday announced the arrest of Kriangsak Rachajamnong, 38, his wife Chamnien Lertkhunrattana, 39, and Sorn Burtnamphet, 50.

The three were wanted for the murder of Methee Monthong, 66, who owned a shipping company in Samut Sakhon province.

Police seized jewellery and other items that belonged to the victim from the suspects. A gun believed to have been used to kill him was also found among their possessions.

According to police, the suspects lured Methee to a meeting on the night of Sunday, Feb 24, and then killed him and stole jewellery worth at least 10 million baht, and other items, from his body and his car.

The accused then put his body in the back of the sedan and pushed it into the canal to hide their crime.

Police said they were able to trace the suspects through the call logs in the victim’s phone.

His last call was made to Ms Chamnien, who admitted having lured the suspect to the meeting to kill him, police said.

She said her husband asked her to call Methee and ask him to meet her. She was a friend of the victim, police said.

She said Mr Sorn fired the gun which killed him, and then they stripped his body of jewellery and the car of other items and dumped his body into the canal inside the car.
