Cost of living rose again in February

The cost of living continued to rise in February, with the consumer price index (CPI) up 3.23% over February 2012 to stand at 104.66, permanent secretary for commerce Watcharee Wimuktayon said on Friday.

The CPI figure rose 0.21% from January and the average inflation rate for the first two months of the year (Jan-Feb) was up 3.30% on the same period last year, she said.

Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, for the month stood at 102.88, up 1.57% on February 2012, and an increase of 0.09% on January.

The average core CPI over the first two months of the year rose 1.58% from the same period last year.

The price index for food and beverages for February was up 4.06% on the same month last year, but down 0.08% on January, to stand at 106.51.

The non-food and beverage index stood at 103.42, up 2.61% on the same month last year and up 0.36% on January.

Mrs Watcharee said her ministry maintained its inflation rate projection for 2013 at the range of 2.8% to 3.4%.
