Ruangkrai: Governor misled voters

Former senator Ruangkrai Leekijwattana on Tuesday submitted a letter requesting the Election Commission to investigate if MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra, Abhisit Vejjajija and Apirak Kosayidhin had violated the Local Election Act during campaigning for the Bangkok governor election.

He said Article 57 of the Local Election Act prohibits candidates from making a promise they cannot keep to attract votes.

MR Sukhumbhand, the successful Democrat Party candidate in the March 3 Bangkok governor election, Mr Abhisit, the party leader, and Mr Apirak, the deputy party leader, announced a policy during the campaign to appoint 31 specialists in various fields to help the governor, he said.

This might be in violation of Article 57 of the Local Election Act, Mr Ruangkrai said in the letter to the EC chairman.

The ex-senator said Article 49 (3) of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Act limits the number advisers to the governor to nine.
