CHIANG MAI : Police are questioning three men in connection with the disappearance of nine million baht from a Krungthai Bank cash delivery van parked at the bank's Mae Rim branch on Wednesday.
The three - Preecha Thongpan, Shidpong Utthayarn and Nattawut Sang Udom - told police they were travelling in the van, which was carrying 27 million baht to fill up Krungthai’s ATMs in the Mae Rim area Wednesday morning.
The cash delivery van was operated by Krung Thai General Business Services Co, a subsidiary of Krung Thai Bank Pcl.
The men claimed they arrived too early at the first ATM location, Krungthai Bank’s Mae Rim branch. They parked the van in the bank's parking area under the main building, and went for a meal, returning shortly before 8.30am when the branch was due to open.
When they opened the van’s vault they found three of the nine money bags missing. Each bag contained three miliion baht.
There was no evidence of a break-in at the vehicle, said Pol Maj Gen Chamnarn Ruadrel, deputy chief Provincial Police Region 5
Police investigators were not convinced by the men's accounts, as each held a key to open the vault with the money bags at the time the money was stolen.
