A man police said was an informant died in a hail of bullets in front of his house in Pattani's Panare district late on Wednesday night.
Pol Col Manit Yimsai, the Panare police chief, said the attack occurred about 11.30pm at Ban Laem Paeng in tambon Ban Klang.
Saree Jeh-alee, 42, was arriving home after attending a religious class when gunmen hiding in nearby bushes opened fire at his car with M16 rifles.
The car was riddled with bullet holes and Saree was hit in the head and body. He died on the spot.
Documents found in his body showed that he acted as an informant for both the police and the military and had been arrested on drug charges in December last year.
