Boys charged with child's attack

Police have charged a Prathom 1 (grade 1) and Mathayom 1 (grade 7) student in connection with the brutal bashing in Suphan Buri of a 5-year-old kindergarten student in an incident that caused public concern.

The victim remains in intensive care at Chulalongkorn Hospital.

Pol Lt Prompong Sanitklang, a duty officer at Muang district police station, said police have filed assault charges against the two older children, alleging they attacked the boy.

The 5-year-old was injured on March 1 in a fight with students at his school in Muang district.

The victim went home after the fight but complained that his arm hurt. He was diagnosed with a broken arm and shoulder, and later developed a blood infection from the injuries which doctors described as life threatening.

After the media spread the story of the beating, Chartthaipattana Party MP for Suphan Buri Sorachat Suchit, and Suphan Buri deputy governor Somchai Lertpongpakorn met to find ways to help the injured boy. Bangkok-based child-protection advocate Paveena Honsakul helped to arrange for his move to Chulalongkorn Hospital.
