A soldier was slightly wounded in an exchange of fire at a checkpoint in Pattani's Yarang district late on Saturday night, reports said.
Police learned from witnesses that four men travelling on two motorcycles opened fire at the checkpoint of Pattani Task Force 21 at Ban Pikri in tambon Krado of Yarang district while soldiers were searching a vehicle.
The soldiers returned fire and the clash followed for about five minutes. Sgt Thavorn Lekdee, 26, was shot and slightly wounded in the right ankle.
