AYUTTHAYA: Thailand's Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphon won the overall individual title at the 23rd Thailand Ladies Amateur Open Golf at Bangsai Country Club yesterday.
Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphon with Thai golf chief Rungsrid Luxitanond.
Overnight leader Sherman, who shot a one-over-par 73 in the final round, defeated compatriot Panarat Tanapolbunyarat at the fourth play-off hole with a three-feet birdie putt.
The pair finished on 15-under-par 201 after 54 holes.
Princess Superal of the Philippines was third on 204 while compatriot Dottie Ardina and Thailand's Ornicha Konsunthea were fourth on 206.
Having led in each of the first two rounds, Sherman, 16, needed a birdie on the final hole to force a play-off.
"I was nervous but managed to birdie the last hole," Sherman said. "My hands were shaking before I made the winning putt."
Sherman, who took up golf four years ago, wants to follow in the footsteps of past champions of the tournament, including Tseng Yani of Taiwan (2005), Jennifer Rosales of the Philippines (1994) and Thailand's Nontaya Srisawang (2004).
In the team event, the title went to Thailand's Ornicha, Supamas Sangchan and Benyapa Niphatsophon of the QSC 2013 team.
