Former TAO official shot in Pattani

A former member of Tambon Taloh Kapo Administration Organisation was wounded in drive-by shooting in Pattani’s Yarang district on Tuesday morning, police said.

Pol Sub-Lt Sathit Surattanasanya, duty office at Sarong police station of Yarang, said about 5.30am he received a report that a man had been shot and injured on the Pattani-Yala road at Ban Buketong in tambon Khao Toom of Yarang district, near Yala province.

He led a team of soldiers and forensic police to the scene. They found a pickup truck with Songkhla licence plate  KY-8995 parked on the roadside. There were four bullet holes in the driver's door window.

Witnesses told police the driver, Matorhae Madeeyoh, 38, resident of Pattani’s Yaring district and a former member of Tambon Taloh Kapo Administration Organisation, had been hit in the shoulder by a bullet and was taken to hospital.

Mr Matorhae and his wife, Maeya Salah, were travelling in the pickup to sell fresh vegetables at Yala's morning market. Gunmen in another pickup truck fired on them with rifles, then fled.

Although shot in his right shoulder Mr Matorhae managed to drive his vehicle to get help from villagers about 300 metres along the road. They took him to Yala hospital. His wife was unharmed.

Police were investigating.
