Mid-year army reshuffle announced

Lt Gen Preecha Chan-ocha, commander of the 3rd Army Corps and younger brother of army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha, has been appointed commander of the 3rd Army Region in a royal command appointing high-level army officers in the mid-year military reshuffle.

The royal command was dated March 25 and was countersigned by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. It was made public on Tuesday. The appointments take effect from April 1.

Lt Gen Preecha Chan-ocha, a younger brother of army chief Gen Prayuth.

Key appointments made in the mid-year reshuffle are:

- Lt Gen Chanchainarong Thanaroon, the 3rd Army Region commander, to be an army specialist (holding the rank of general);
- Lt Gen Udomchai Thammasaroraj, the 4th Army Region commander, to be an army specialist (holding the rank of general);
- Lt Gen Suparat Pattanawisuth, commander of the Special Warfare Command, to be an army specialist (holding the rank of general);
- Lt Gen Nathachai Bai-ngern, deputy army chief-of-staff, to be an army specialist (holding the rank of general);
- Lt Gen Sakol Chuentrakul, an army specialist, to be 4th Army Region commander;
- Lt Gen Preecha Chan-ocha, the 3rd Army Corps commander, to be the 3rd Army Region commander;
- Maj Gen Pansak Chandang, the 3rd Army Corps deputy commander, to be the 3rd Army Region deputy commander; and
- Lt Gen Walit Rojanapaksi, assistant army chief-of-staff, to the 1st Army Corps commander.
